This article covers the rules for using drones in Jordan.
Drone use in Jordan is strictly regulated and generally prohibited without prior official approval. Bringing a drone into the country, flying it for recreation or operating it without the appropriate permit is illegal and can lead to fines, confiscation of the drone or legal action. For tourists, it is therefore extremely difficult or practically impossible to obtain a permit for drone flights.
Drone use is currently only permitted for the following parties:
- The Royal Film Commission of Jordan
- The Jordan Tourism Board for coordinating promotional campaigns
- Diplomatic missions or official government institutions
- Film and production companies visiting Jordan for documented photography, film or media work
- Individuals or organizations that have received written approval from both the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) and the Ministry of Interior
Bringing a drone into Jordan
You need a permit to import your drone. Submit the following documents to the CARC at least 10 working days before your planned arrival in Jordan:
- the completed application form
- a copy of your passport
- proof of drone insurance
- a certificate or proof of training or a license (e.g. flight logs, training certificates)
- exact details of the planned flights (locations, times, duration)
Without this permit, customs may confiscate your drone. Always carry the document with you.
On arrival in Jordan, you have to pay a deposit of 500 JOD at customs. The authorities then seal the drone. When you leave, you have to present the drone with the seal intact to get a full refund. This serves as a guarantee that the drone was not used during your stay.
