Drone Laws in Colombia

Flying Drones in ColombiaOn this page, you will find a summary of drone laws in Colombia.

In Colombia, it is challenging to get a copter up into the air. Pilots have to train at a school that is registered with the air traffic control and to collect 40 hours of flight practice. The content of the training courses are topics such as meteorology, aerodynamics, and communication in the airspace. The training costs depending on the school between 400 and 900 euros.

In addition to the training, you need an aviation liability insurance, which covers a loss amount of at least 1.2 million euros. During the drone flights, you have to carry a radio receiver with you to listen to the aviation communication. 5 kilometers around airports is a restricted zone, for which, however, individual permits can be issued.

15 days before the flight, you must apply for Aerocivil maneuver and a drone flight permit. However, as the agency is unable to handle requests due to staff shortages, your application will be considered confirmed if you do not receive any feedback. Public services, media, and universities can also apply for a permanent permit.

Personally, I would not burden myself with the effort, and I would leave my drone at home when I travel to Colombia.
