Further rules for drone pilots in Macao
Without permission, you are not allowed to fly higher than 30 meters above ground in Macao. If you want to fly higher, you have to apply for a permit for such flight maneuvers. Drones with a take-off weight of 7 kilograms also require an operating license.
In Macao, your copter must be in the direct visual line of sight. Specifically, the authorities have set a maximum horizontal distance of just 100 meters.
I recommend you complete a global drone insurance for flights in Macao.
Safety distances and flight bans
Drones are not allowed to fly 1 kilometer around airports and heliports.
You can approach a gathering of people up to a maximum of 100 meters. A gathering of people means a group of more than 100 people, which is very liberal in international comparison. A distance of 50 meters must be maintained to protected buildings.
Drone use is prohibited at government buildings and power stations. Flights are also prohibited at the Amizade Bridge.
Drone flights are only allowed by day in Macao if there is no separate permission from the aviation authority.
Marking drones from 250 grams
Every drone in Macao weighing more than 250 grams must be marked with a sign bearing the owner’s name and phone number. The sign can be issued in Portuguese, Chinese, or English.
Applying for a permit
If you must apply for authorization, you can do so by mail, fax, or personally at the CAA at least 10 working days in advance. You can send the corresponding form to [email protected]. A separate permit is needed for each flight. There is no charge for the application. The processing time is indicated as less than working 10 days.

Anyone who violates the existing rules must expect penalties of up to 23.200 euros (20,000 MOP).
