Maximum flight altitude: Without permission you are not allowed to fly higher than 30 meters above ground in Macao. If you want to fly higher, you have to apply a permit for such flight maneuvers.
Maximum horizontal distance and FPV: In Macao, your copter must be in direct view distance. Specifically, the authorities have set a maximum horizontal distance of just 100 meters.
Compulsory insurance: I recommend you the take out of a global drone insurance for flights in Macao.
Maximum take-off weight (MTOW): Drones with a take-off weight of 7 kilograms require an operating license.
Distance to airports: Drones are not allowed to fly 1 kilometer around airports and heliports.
Other safe distances: You can approach a maximum of 100 meters to a gathering of people. A gathering of people means a group of more than 100 people, which is very liberal in international comparison. A distance of 50 meters must be maintained to protected buildings.
Flight bans: Drone uses are prohibited at government buildings and power stations. Flights are also prohibited at the Amizade Bridge.
Flight approval: If you must apply for an authorization, you can do this by mail, fax or personally at the CAA. The corresponding form is available on the linked website which is mentioned below and is very simple. A separate permit must be applied for each flight. There is no charge for the application. The processing time is indicated with less than 10 days.
Time of operations: Drone flights are only allowed in Macao only by day if there is no separate permission from the aviation authority.
Specific regulations: Every drone flying in Macao and weighing more than 250 grams must be marked with a sign bearing the owner’s name and phone number. The sign can be issued in Portuguese, Chinese or English.
Regulations for commercial pilots: As far as I know, there are no separate conditions for commercial pilots in Macao.
Good to know: Anyone who violates the existing rules must expect penalties of up to 23.200 euros (20.000 MOP).
